Rehoming your pet

Untitled

There are many reason's why a person may need to rehome their pet, and that is perfectly okay. We want you to understand, that we understand. As much as we are here for our animals, we are here for our people too. We want to help you, but in order to do so, you must reach out for help first!
The 4 beautiful rats in the photo above, were abandoned in an apartment building in Peterborough Ontario over Christmas. For almost 3 weeks, they were left to fend for themselves, in a tiny, dirty cage. Thankfully once the landlords found them, they reached out for help and that's where we came in!
If the owners had reached out to us first, those babies could have avoided 3 weeks of starvation, dehydration, and the freezing temps in an abandoned house with no heat.
We are judgement free, as with most rescues and humane societies. We just want to see the best for every animal, and our goal is to help everybody involved. Please don't ever hesitate to reach out if you are considering rehoming your animal, please do not leave them behind, please don't abandon them.. They deserve so much more!

Here are some ways to responsibly rehome your animal!
We understand that rehoming your animal can be hard, and we want to make things easier for you! Here are some ways to ensure your animal is going into the best home!
Our number one recommendation is to find your local rescues/humane societies and reach out to them! Don't be afraid to ask questions, tell your concerns, and be upfront and honest! Any rescue will be more than happy to show you their set up, go over their rehoming process, and answer all your questions about the care needed!
Charge an adoption fee! Â·if you are rehoming your animal, please make sure to charge an adoption fee! Too many people look for free animals, for too many of the wrong reasons. A way to avoid somebody looking for "just a free pet" is to charge an adoption fee!
Do your 'homework' on the person wanting to adoption! Ask as many questions as you can, and make sure you are able to have their information like, their personal social media accounts, first and last name, phone number, etc! Home checks are an amazing way to see where your new pet might be! Any one adopting your pet, should have no issues sharing contact information for updates! We at the rescue, keep in contact with any previous owner that wants to know how their baby is doing!
