Zeus's Recovery Story!
Zeus has made amazing progress since he was dropped off at the rescue!
When Zeus first came into the rescue, he was lethargic, covered in mites, and very malnourished... Zeus needed immediate attention as soon as he came into the rescue.
Zeus was immediately treated for his mites, which needed to be treated for a few days, and we could definitely tell he felt a lot better once those pesty mites were gone!!
Zeus was on a liquid diet when he first came in because of his malnourishment. Zeus was too weak to eat on his own, and the mites definitely didn't help that either!
Zeus now, jumps from his basking log or hammock to chase his crickets! He is the fastest beardie we currently have at the rescue when it comes to getting his bugs AND greens!!!!
It makes us so proud to see Zeus thriving the way he should be
Zeus has gotten all the love and TLC he can from Southern Ontario Exotics, and found the most amazing home!! You supporting us, allows us to support the animals. It's the most amazing feeling in the world to make a difference for Zeus and see him thrive in his amazing home! That wouldn't have been possible without all of you!
Thank you, from everybody here at the rescue!
Toothless says NO to cohabitation!!
Toothless and I want to talk to you about cohabitation dangers!!! You can tell by Toothless beard... He means BUSINESS😤
Toothless is our special dragon! Has he only has one hand, and is also missing half of his tail! And this is because he was being housed with another bearded dragon. Now even though the bearded dragon was the same size as Toothless.. And has been with Toothless what you could call their whole lives.. This still happened!
This is always a risk when housing more then one reptile together. In the wild, these are the things that naturally take place. However, in the wild they can escape a fight, in a tank, they cannot!
Please, do not risk housing your reptiles together. If there is even a slight risk, a incident like Toothless's could happen to your scaley friends.. Why risk it?
Let them Thrive, instead of making them fight for resources to survive
Yummy foods?
Just your neighborhood rescue reminding you to eat your fruits and veggies and provide them to your reptile & amphibians that need them!!
REMEMBER; Google which fruits and veggies your reptiles & amphibians can/cannot have!! AND WASH THEM!!! Some cannot be eaten and some can only be given in small doses! Make sure you are doing your job and researching what foods to feed your reptiles & amphibians!
We have all sorts of animals here from Crested Geckos to rats, and every animal requires a certain diet! Things our rats can eat, our bearded dragons absolutely cannot have!! So please keep that in mind and google before trying different things!! Spyro loves Banana's, but he can only have them once a month! 😊
Safety outside with the summer heat!
This is a huge safety issue !!!
Please avoid taking that spare 10 or 20 gallon glass tank outside on your deck, patio, lawn, even in a shaded area, to put your bearded dragon/reptile in it. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
If you're thinking of doing this, please remember;
Glass insulates heat. It doesn't let heat escape. Your reptile cannot get out of the heat, and can die of heat stroke.
You also do not want to put a reptile in any plastic container that's minimally ventilated for the same reason. Put them on a leash, or put them on your lap and keep a hand on them, in case they get startled, so they don't run away!
We see this happening every summer, and have already seen it happen once this year. Even if the lid is off, just don't risk it!
By the time your reptile can give any warning signs in this situation, due to how quickly a glass cage can overheat in the outside temps, your reptile could already in critical condition.
In these extreme temps, you need to be VERY Careful of what you're putting your reptiles in, outside!
Also, if it's extremely hot, be mindful of the actual surface temp so that your reptiles underneath don't get burned!
Enjoy your summer without any issues! Safety first!
We are always looking for amazing foster homes!!
If you are looking for a more hands on way to get involved with animal rescue, and gain more experience with animal care, then you have come to the right place! We offer many different foster programs, including foster-to-adopt!
